Johan Claassen

Johan ClaassenJohan Claassen (Beek en Donk, 1943) was raised a farmer’s son. Between 1963 and 1966 he attended the academy in Enschede. His work consists of paintings, sculptures, assemblages from objets trouvés and drawings.
He lives in Brakel, the Netherlands where together with his wife, the artist Dorien Melis, the enjoy the quiet of the countryside.

Themes in his work include:
man working in nature, love and daily happiness. Work by Johan Claassen has been inducted into prominent collections such as those of the Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and Museum Statues by the Sea in Scheveningen.
