Hewald Jongenelis
Hewald Jongenelis (Ettenleur, 1962) is active as an installation artist, performance artist, painter and photographer. He works in close collaboration with Sylvie Zijlmans.
Hewald attended the academy of Tilburg (1985-1995) and Ateliers ’63 in Haarlem (1985-1987). Early on, in 1993 he received the Prix de Rome. The exhibition ‘The Magnetic North & The Idea of Freedom’(2017) in Museum Boijmans van Beuningen gives an indication of the kind of work the artist duo creates: crossmedia, engaged experiences, submerging the visitor in a world of moving statues, video and wallpaintings.
Work by Jongenelis (mostly in combination with that oft Sylvie Zijlmans) is to be found in the collections of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Centraal Museum, Utrecht, Kunsthaus Essen, Municipal museum The Hague, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Gruuthuuse Museum, Bruges, Museum of Modern Art, Arnhem, Ceac Art Centre, Xiamen, China and numerous private collections.
