Frank Lodeizen

Frank LodeizenFrank Lodeizen (Amsterdam, 1931 – 2013) was educated at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and worked as a painter and sculptor. Lodeizen was connected to the influential ‘Vijftigers’ (Lucebert, Remco Campert etc.) and Cobra movements and was always exhibiting his works, mainly in the better known galleries of Amsterdam. He received a wider recognition for his etchings in coproductions with such poets and writers as Hans Andreus and Simon Carmiggelt. Hans, Frank’s brother, was a well known poet. Lucebert and later on Paul Klee are known to have been of major influence on his work.

Frank Lodeizen hailed from a Jewish ancestry including the prestigious Portuguese Miranda family. During WWII Frank and his family were involved in the resistance.

After the war Frank kept getting involved in all kinds of adventures. Apart from his artistic ventures he had an equally stromy love life including four marriages, one of which was to a Swedish actress from which union the well known Dutch actress and director Rifka Lodeizen was born.

Frank Lodeizen’s work can be found in many institutional collections, including those of the Museum Van Bommel Van Dam, the Rijksmuseum, and the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam and also the Museum of Litterature.
