Jelis van Dolderen (1954) was educated at Akademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Arnhem and was the assistent of the influential constructivist Berend Hendriks there. Jelis lives and works in Utrecht. He is a well known painter as well as a maker of installations, often on a monumental scale. He has created his own style and language where colors, textures and shapes form abstract symbolic representations that he seeks to harmonize in his compositions. While constructing his own universes in this way, he cites from different traditions. citeert hij uit diverse tradities. He often starts from a photograph which he then loads with abstract color fields until an imaginary world ensues that acts as a kind of mathematical adjuration of reality.
